About the Artist
Birgit Sandoval, born in 1960, in Saarbruken Germany, has been exploring and creating various forms of mixed media art for over 20 years. She combines photography, painting and computer digitizing techniques to create her compositions. Her imagery questions and manipulates reality into surreal and dream like worlds. Her style incorporates Classical, Surreal and sometimes abstract imagery with modern digital and printing techniques. Birgit uses live models as well as creating her own sets and photo montage imagery. She claims, " I have always been a mixed media artist. I hate to be pigeon holed into just one type of medium or style of art. My style various depending on the subject matter, mood and message that I am making."
In the Artist's Words
Nothing is as it really appears. We look with our eyes, but interpret with our hearts and minds when we look at our surroundings and it is that interpretation that defines our own individual reality. I recreate my visual interpretation of the things and people around me by painting with my camera, with light and with digital tools. Often, I create photo sets using models and objects that will help convey the mood and message of that piece. My works encompass a wide range of emotions and topics which deal with the human condition.
After I have created a body of work, I then print the images in large Geclee prints. I feel that this printing technique can effectively recreate the rich colors that I employ in all my works. I do not like to limit myself to just one subject matter or artistic style. My shift in different approaches can be seen in the different bodies of art work I have done during the past twenty years. In this web site, I only include my more recent works done during the past ten years. I have also included some works of a new serie I am working on called "Digital Dreams".

The two works shown on the lower section of this page are from a series photographed while Sandoval was in Paris, France. This series is thus called the " Paris Series" which began in 2005 and was completed in 2006. In this website the following five bodies of work are shown:
* Venice Dreams (2000-2004)
* The Paris Series (2005-2006)
* Strange Kind of Freedom 2007
* Digital Dreams ( the most recent)
* Neon Series (the most recent)
There is also a section in this site which describes the artist's process from creating her images to the final Giclee prints.
